What started as a hobby sewing project has grown into my own toy brand

Patty Beekwilder

When I was pregnant with my youngest daughter, I knew one thing for sure: I didn't want battery-powered toys with lights or buttons. I longed for toys made from natural materials.

A perfect sewing project for my daughter

When my daughter was 6 months old, I discovered the world of Montessori through a mother on YouTube. The bean bags kept appearing in her videos. I decided it was the perfect sewing project. So I made the first bean bags , and my daughter was instantly hooked.

Regardless of age or gender - every child played with the bean bags

What struck me was that every child who visited—regardless of age or gender—played with the beanbags. Each child played with them in their own way. The second thing that surprised me was that other toys often ended up in the attic after a few months. While the beanbags seemed to grow along with my daughter's development.

The beanbags didn't change, only the way of playing

At first, she touched them, then lifted them up and shook them. The next phase was putting them in a basket repeatedly and then taking them out again. As she grew older, she learned to stack, throw, balance, and even count with them.

That versatility intrigued me. I now have two daughters, ages 3 and 5, but the beanbags are still a favorite in our play corner.

Where did you get those cute bean bags?

When yet another mom asked where I got those amazing beanbags, it finally clicked. I started my own toy brand with these imaginative beanbags. The Little Botanic label was born.

With love for children and the environment

What began as a creative sewing project has grown into a toy brand focused on sustainability, imagination, and years of fun. Each beanbag is handmade and encourages children to play in their own way.

With the Little Botanic label, I want to show that toys can not only be fun, but also sustainable and timeless – a world where less really is more.

Love,

Patty

Open-ended toys have no rules. They're not necessarily "something" and can therefore be anything. A beanbag can effortlessly transform into a stacking game, a bed for dolls, a pretend cake, or ice skates.

Open-ended toys aren't restricted by age or gender. They adapt to a child's development and interests.
