10x Playing with Play Silk for Babies

I'm often asked if silk playthings are fun for babies. And I can answer that with a resounding "yes." In our house, silk playthings are the most used toys. Not only by babies, but also by toddlers and preschoolers. Today I'm sharing 10 activities with silk playthings for babies.

From when can you let a baby play with play silk?
Around 3 months, you'll notice your little one becoming increasingly aware of the world around them. They'll want to put everything in their mouths and start grabbing and moving things. This is a great time to introduce play silk. As with all toys, it's recommended to only offer play silk under supervision.

10x Playing with Play Silk for Babies

  1. Offer playing side separately
Play silk feels super soft and shines beautifully in the light. Everything in this world is new to babies, so something that feels so soft is fascinating to them.
  2. Tie play silk to a teething ring or toy
Babies explore the world with their mouths, so it's fun to tie the play side to a teething ring or toy. When your child brings the teething ring to their mouth, the play side will swing behind it. This is incredibly interesting for a little one!
  3. Tying knots in a playing side
Different textures are especially interesting for babies. They experience the difference between hard and soft, warm and cold, and so on for the first time. Try tying a few knots in a piece of play silk. Your child can discover the difference between the softness of the play silk and the hardness of the knot.
  4. Attach multiple play sides to one teething ring
Tie two or three different colors of silk to a single teething ring. The contrasts between the colors will also create a unique visual experience for your little one. This promises lots of swinging and swaying fun!
  5. Tie to a baby gym or play arch
Tie different play sides to a baby gym or play arch and place your little one underneath. Fun guaranteed. Pull on the play sides, run your fingers through them, or move the sides with your feet.
  6. Putting playing sides into an open ball
Pulling out play ends is often a big hit! There are often plastic or natural rubber balls with openings for babies. Try inserting a play end into one of those. The ball becomes super interesting!
  7. Put them in a tissue box
Once your child can play sitting up, you can put the play sides in a tissue box. At first, your child will just take them out, but eventually, they'll learn to put them back.
    Basket with play sides
  8. Play side in a basket
This is also a really fun activity for tummy time. Place a basket with a low, raised edge and play sides in front of your child. There's something about baskets with little things in them. They'll often be entertained with them for ages.
  9. Peekaboo!
I played peek-a-boo for hours with the play sides. Hiding myself or hiding the baby. The children are now 1.5 and 3.5 years old, and we still play peek-a-boo a lot.
  10. Hide something under the play side
Babies go through a phase where they want to hide everything. And play silk is perfect for this. Because it's slightly translucent, it makes play easier. Let your little one hide something, or hide their favorite toy underneath.
